The President of the Supreme Court, Horacio Rosatti, warned that eliminating the peso would be "unconstitutional".
In this way he referred to presidential candidate Javier Milei's proposal to replace the Argentine currency with the US dollar.
"If I drop one currency and go entirely to the other it is a path that, for me, is unconstitutional," Rosatti said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El País.
"This does not mean that there cannot be others, but we must have our own currency," said the head of Argentina's highest court.
He added: "It is not possible to regulate the value of another country's currency. We must put an end to this fantasy".
In this context, he also recommended candidates to "read the Constitution".
Milei was the most voted candidate in the August primaries, prior to the general elections of October 22.
