Peace talks in Colombia RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Dissident FARC members join dialogue

Colombia's government announced negotiations with the so-called "FARC dissidents".

These are the factions that did not join the 2016 agreement that resulted in the demobilization of the once largest Colombian guerrilla.

The dissidents are about 2,000 fighters who remain active still.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported the start of the dialogue on Monday via his Twitter.

"A second peace process begins," added the leader, referring to the talks underway with the rebels of the ELN, the National Liberation Army.

It is worth noting that Petro's government is also negotiating a cessation of hostilities with criminal groups such as the Clan del Golfo.

It is in the context of his "Total Peace" project, one of his campaign promises, which seeks the end of armed conflicts in Colombia.
